Mixbook Analytics is the company engine that develops data science models and analyses that powers Mixbook’s business. The team is focused on understanding and optimizing every aspect of our business through data and statistical models as a key enabler for the company to iterate and learn quickly on big business problems. The Director of Analytics is the company leader responsible for identifying and delivering the models, insights and data needed to assess current business performance and illuminate our path to growth. This role will lead the Analytics team and be the company authority on consumer analytics backed by statistical models and data science investments.

As our Director of Analytics and Data Science you will have a solid grasp of the analytics and statistical models that are required for a growing ecommerce business. You will be responsible for designing, overseeing and implementing business analyses, ecommerce and marketing experiments and data science models. You have expertise with AWS databases, visualization tools, statistical methods and python.
You will report to the SVP of Data and will oversee a tenured and senior group of analysts each with expertise in one of our business divisions. With an optimal experience of 5+ years experience as a leader in Analytics or Data Science and 4+ years of experience as an Analyst or Data Scientist, you'll have a proven track record of success.
Mixbook is committed to a remote-first environment. This position is fully remote in the US. While the Analytics team is primarily in the US, our engineering team is in Eastern Europe, and some days we have start times as early as 7am PST to participate in status and ideation meetings.
What You’ll Do
- Business Analysis
- Oversee critical analyses that elucidate business performance and guide tactics across marketing, product development, operations and financial analysis. Work closely with C-Suite and business leaders on initiatives and ongoing activities. Select priorities to personally analyze to bring authority and expertise to our most critical needs.
- Set data investment agenda for analytic tooling and data engineering (transformations and infrastructure needs) with SVP of Data and newly established data engineering team.
- Statistical Analyses and Data Science
- Establish experimentation best practices and work collaboratively with Product Management and Marketing leaders on tests, guiding appropriate methodologies and interpreting complex test results.
- Oversee development of data science models including customer lifetime value (LTV), marketing models, financial forecasts, supplier optimization and prediction models. Guide development of future data science models and expand our aperture to new approaches that can drive value.
- Leadership
- Proactively leverage our data to identify new business opportunities.
- Be the authority on our data assets, business performance and data science investments. Set direction based on insights and models overseen by you and your team directly with C-Suite and business leaders
- Guide partners to optimal data analyses, models and investments to meet growing business needs.
- Oversee team of 4+ direct reports in prioritizing and delivering high quality analyses and models.
- General
- Actively participate in team development initiatives, training, and other events.
- Promote strong collaboration within a cross-functional team, including analytics, engineering and business teams marketing, operations, design, and product management.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, MIS, or other quantitative discipline. Masters preferred.
- A solid grasp of Business Analytics, online experimentation methodologies, statistical models and basic Data Science frameworks, and methodologies.
- 7+ years experience including 5+ years leading an Analytics, Data Science or similar growth-oriented team. Experience proactively identifying business opportunities leveraging expertise in Consumer or Ecommerce analytics.
- Expert SQL, Python and/or similar programming skills. Python, Other coding languages are a plus. Experience working with Looker PDTs and LookML a plus. We expect the leader to initially be hands on as a “leader-doer”.
- Experience with AWS or similar cloud databases. Familiarity with advance data management frameworks and tools (i.e., dbt, coalesce, Monte Carlo) a plus
- Demonstrated success influencing executives on strategic direction based on recommendations backed by in-depth analysis.
- Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment, with a proven track record of implementing new analytic techniques, tools and the associated change management to drive adoption and integration into business processes and rituals.
