Customer Integrations Lead
Acorn
Customer Service
Sydney, NSW, Australia
About Acorn: At Acorn PLMS, we are on a mission to transform the corporate learning experience. Our AI-powered Performance Learning Management System (PLMS) ensures that what people learn directly contributes to exceptional performance. We guide learners step by step to master the specific capabilities required for their roles, accelerating organisational performance.
We are open to individuals based in Canberra or Sydney, Australia – this is an in-office role.
Role overview:
The Customer Integrations Lead owns the technical integration experience for Acorn’s customers — from scoping through to go-live. Sitting within the Customer Experience (CX) team, you’ll design and build the connections between Acorn and the platforms our customers already rely on (HCMs, HRIS, CRMs, productivity tools, and other SaaS APIs).
Our current stack is n8n for integration workflows, AWS for infrastructure, and Claude as our AI assistant of choice. We’re tool-agnostic on incoming experience — if you’ve worked with comparable platforms (Make, Zapier, Power Automate, Workato, or similar), and you can pick up new tools quickly, you’ll be a great fit.
This is an intermediate-level role and it’s customer-facing from day one. You’ll lead scoping calls, produce SOWs and effort estimates, and be a confident presence on regular customer calls. Translating technical complexity into clear conversations is just as important as the build itself.
5 Key Capabilities for this role
The best part… we use our Acorn software at Acorn. We believe in the power of our Managers and Employees being aligned on the 5 capabilities needed for each role, and the level that we expect for any given role, using our Acorn AI tool to streamline this consistently across our business. The 4 levels comprise Foundational, Developing, Proficient and Advanced.
Here are the 5 key capabilities for the role and the level expected to give you an idea of what the role entails:
- API Integration & Design - Level: Proficient: Design and build reliable integrations between Acorn and third-party platforms using REST APIs, webhooks, and low-code tools. At Proficient, you independently scope and deliver integrations end-to-end, troubleshoot live failures, and create reusable patterns.
- Workflow automation - Level: Proficient: Build and maintain multi-step workflows that automate data flows and onboarding tasks. At Proficient, you design workflows that are reliable, observable, and easy for others to extend.
- Customer scoping & technical implementation - Level: Proficient: Lead scoping calls, produce SOW estimates, and own technical delivery from kickoff to go-live. At Proficient, you run engagements independently - setting scope, managing expectations, and resolving issues with clear communication.
- Cross-Functional collaboration - Level: Developing: Work effectively across Customer Success, Engineering, and Product to deliver integration outcomes and communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Technical documentation & knowledge sharing - Level: Proficient: Create and maintain clear integration documentation, customer guides, and internal playbooks tailored to multiple audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Integration Design & Build
- Design and build integration workflows connecting Acorn to customer platforms using low-code tools and direct API integrations
- Integrate Acorn with third-party platforms — HCMs, HRIS (Workday, BambooHR, SuccessFactors), CRMs, and productivity tools
- Handle authentication, data mapping, transformation, and error handling end-to-end
- Create reusable workflow templates that can be rapidly adapted for new customers
- Manage integration credentials and environment configs securely across customer tenants
Customer Scoping & Implementation
- Lead scoping calls to understand each customer’s platform stack, data requirements, and integration goals
- Produce clear Statements of Work (SOW) and effort estimates that balance scope, complexity, and timeline
- Be a confident, credible presence on regular customer calls — communicating clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Guide customers through API key setup, webhook configuration, and data mapping specific to their platforms
- Troubleshoot live integration failures with clear root cause analysis and resolution
- Manage customer expectations throughout the lifecycle, flagging risks or scope changes early
- Partner with Implementation Specialists and Strategic Account Managers on broader onboarding
Automation & Documentation
- Replace manual onboarding steps with automated workflows
- Monitor integration health across customer environments and proactively detect issues
- Maintain clear documentation for integration patterns, API usage, and customer-specific configs
- Provide input into API roadmap discussions based on patterns across implementations
Required Experience
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience building API integrations in a SaaS or B2B environment
- Practical experience with at least one low-code integration platform — n8n, Make, Zapier, Power Automate, Workato, Boomi, or similar
- Strong working knowledge of REST APIs — OAuth 2.0, API keys, JSON, webhooks, and pagination patterns
- Experience integrating with real-world SaaS platforms: HCMs, HRIS, CRMs, or productivity suites
- Comfort reading API documentation and independently building integrations without heavy engineering support
- Comfort with light scripting (Python, JavaScript, or similar) to extend or debug integrations
- Experience using AI coding assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate integration work and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated experience leading customer-facing scoping calls and writing SOWs or effort estimates
- Strong verbal and written communication — comfortable presenting to technical and non-technical audiences on regular calls
Nice to Have:
- Experience with SSO protocols (SAML, OIDC) and identity-related integrations
- Familiarity with SFTP or file-based data ingestion pipelines
- Exposure to AWS services (API Gateway, Lambda, S3) in an integration context
- Experience with LMS, HRIS, or HR-tech platforms and their integration ecosystems
